Introducing: Shutter Mission

I alluded to this project back in October 2009, but I’m excited to announce it’s finally ready!

Shutter Mission is all about highlighting portrait charities & honoring photographers who give their time, talent, and heart.

Learn more about Shutter Mission, explore the directory of portrait charities, check out the free resources for photographers, nominate a charitable photographer to be featured, or share the Shutter Mission site with a deserving family who could benefit from the services these organizations offer.  Also, be sure to subscribe to updates while you’re checking out the site.

You can find Shutter Mission on both Twitter and Facebook.  Can’t wait to connect with you!

We have moved to San Francisco!

This blog update is long overdue, but we’ve been a tad busy!

In August, my husband and I packed up our home in Atlanta and moved to San Francisco.

Those who know us well, know that this was not a sudden decision.  Something had been stirring in our hearts, and we had been desiring a new adventure and a change in scenery for several years now.  I won’t bore you with the details except to say that we had been praying about it for a long time, and one day, God opened all the right doors, and well…  here we are!

Eric and I are so grateful to be here, and we are anxious to see how our gifts will be utilized in this new city of ours.

I’m not sure what the future holds for Capturinglight.  I love portrait photography and adore all my little clients… but I also have so many other goals I want to accomplish.

Speaking of which… I have already begun work on a new project that I am so excited about it… but I can’t divulge too much info just yet.  However, I can tell you that portrait photographers everywhere… especially those who enjoy giving back to the community… will want to be a part of this new project.  Stay tuned for more info! *

To my Atlanta clients:  Thank you for choosing me to be your family’s photographer.  I was, and am, honored.  And if you need a referral for a local photographer, please feel free to contact me.

Until next time!
Amanda :)

Happy Birthday, Nana. We miss you.

My Nana - Frances Duncan

This is my “Nana”… Frances Wilbanks Duncan, and today, she would have been 88 years old. She was my last living grandparent, and she passed away earlier this year in April.

My mom recently gave me this photograph. Nana is pictured here with two of her most prized earthly possessions… her books & her Shelia houses. She had hundreds of both. Her two favorite places on this planet were Charleston, SC, and her home in the hills of Habersham County, Georgia. But I know she’s happier where she is now, reunited with all the family that passed on before her… and with her husband whom she lost over 40 years ago, my grandfather, Cal.

Happy birthday, Nana! I’m thinking of you…

Featured Session | 16 month old girl

A few faves from a recent session with an active toddler here in Midtown Atlanta.

Mom’s goal for our session was to capture her daughter’s beauty and exploratory nature…

… I’d say we definitely accomplished that!

What is Custom Photography?

An excerpt from a great article on custom photography:

“What custom photography ultimately is all about is choice and experience (as in THE experience). Custom photography is about finding someone who will photograph your family, give you devoted 1:1 attention without worry of the next ‘in line’ or the feeling of a crowded portrait studio. A custom photographer will typically show you a fairly extensive gallery culled to only the good images that meet the photographers’ creative sensibilities. Often the images are fully edited and color-corrected with blemishes and undereye circles removed.

Custom photographers are also known as boutique studios, offering a range of products and unparalleled service. Think Lexus vs. HyundaiNordstrom vs. Wal-Mart.

Custom photography should have you, the client, and your experience in mind.”

This 9 month old cutie was a complete joy. Here are a few of my favs from our session together.

Thanks to the “C” family for inviting me to capture Miss A. She’s a total sweetheart.

See you soon.
